CHARACTER
NAME: Atsushi Nakajima
CANON: Bungou to Alchemist
CANON POINT: After "Aka and Ao's Study on Alchemy ~First Years~" event
AGE: 33
BACKGROUND: Atsushi's page, and the introduction more or less covers the plot of the game.

PERSONALITY: "I wonder, between he and I, who is the real 'me'?"

Atsushi has a split personality, and this informs a good deal of his character and behavior.

"It'd be nice if I could understand everything about myself from this book..."

On the one hand, his "Outer" personality is polite to a fault and constantly self-conscious about what others think of him, the nature of reality, the meaning of being alive, and so on and so forth. He spends too much time trying to understand himself, and at the same time he spends too much time thinking about other's opinions. Even when someone is being extremely pushy and bothersome, he can't bring himself to be rude to them in return - in other words, he's a doormat. He tries to hide his condition from other people, even good friends who are concerned about him, feeling that no one else would understand how he feels. When someone does find out about his split personality, he pleads for them to keep it a secret.

In spite of his constant self-reflection and anxieties, he has has a positive outlook on life and on people in general. He doesn't understand his other half, even less than Inner Atsushi understands him - he doesn't remember anything from when Inner Atsushi takes control, and is only vaguely aware of his other half's presence at the back of his mind when Outer Atsushi is in control - and is embarrassed by his violent behavior. Still, he wants to learn more about him, and frequently hopes that his other half is happy. Despite their differences, Inner Atsushi's less than pleasant demeanor, and his own fretting about which of them is the 'real' him, on some level Outer Atsushi accepts that they are two parts of one whole.

He likes taking care of cats, and of course he loves writing. He has a deep appreciation for Chinese classics and history and can recognize quotes from them, and his travels to Micronesia have left him with a love of the beauty of those islands and a respect for the native people there. His firm belief that literature and war should be separate led to him refusing to write anything about the war he lived through, instead focusing on his usual themes of self-doubt, the meaning of life, existentialism, the inevitability of fate, etc. During life, he rarely spoke of his own writing, and even now that he lives in a library with other dead authors, he's more likely to talk about how much he admires someone else's works.

"I have no time to spare for fools. Disappear."

Atsushi's "Inner" personality usually only comes out for combat, and is unashamedly both arrogant and cruel. He has no shame in enjoying killing monsters, nor does he mince words about about leaving dealing with "idiots" to his other half. He almost always leaves after the combat is done, so his Blood Knight tendencies are what shows up most often.

Inner Atsushi doesn't get Outer Atsushi's optimism and has no issue with behaving in a way that will leave Outer Atsushi embarrassed afterwards, but he also has a protective streak a mile wide. He takes control if Outer Atsushi is ever threatened or even just mildly inconvenienced, and he'll stay in control longer if they're in a weakened state so that Outer Atsushi doesn't have to go through that. Despite his own love of fighting, he warns the player not to send him into battle too much because it might have effects on his other half.

He's not one to be polite and will frequently state that he's better than everyone else, enemies and allies alike, but he will (extremely reluctantly) thank someone that Outer Atsushi admires for warning him about danger. Everyone else gets reluctant cooperation at best and open disdain or violence at worst.

Despite his other half being more obviously the sensitive literary type, Inner Atsushi quotes his (or their?) own works just as often. How much he was involved with the writing process is uncertain, but he clearly has a certain attachment to it.

Why Inner Atsushi takes off his glasses and slicks back his hair when he takes over is a mystery, unless it's just because he's Extra. It's probably because he's Extra. Outer Atsushi is just confused how he can see without his glasses on.

POWERS/ABILITIES: -Can enter the world inside books. In Prisma they won't be filled with monsters, so this is kind of useless, but he can do it.
-Can drink ink to heal his injuries. Can't heal injuries the normal way.
-He's dead, so he won't age.
-Becoming sufficiently injured puts him into a weakened or breakdown state, which causes blue or purple letters to appear on his skin and causes mental instability until he's healed.
-Is Inner Atsushi being able to see without his glasses on a power??

INVENTORY: -His book "Light, Wind, and Dreams" which he can turn into a sword.
-A small container of ink.

MOONBLESSING: Cordis
